Methylphenidate

Before you take methylphenidate 10 mg

• This is a stimulant that can affect your heart, blood pressure, mood, and sleep. Tell your clinician if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, glaucoma, or a history of substance use.
• Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day. Do not take extra doses or share it with anyone.
• Swallow it whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or dissolve it.
• Avoid alcohol and other stimulants (including energy drinks and some decongestants) while taking it.

Watch for these signs and get help right away

• Chest pain, trouble breathing, or fainting.
• Fast, pounding, or uneven heartbeat that does not settle.
• Thoughts of hurting yourself or others, severe mood swings, or hallucinations.
• Painful or long-lasting erections.
• Signs of circulation problems (fingers or toes that change color, hurt, or feel cold).

Everyday precautions

• It can make you dizzy or less aware of danger. Be careful with driving, biking, or using tools until you know how it affects you.
• It may reduce appetite or delay weight gain and growth in children. Regular check-ins with your clinician help track this.
• Do not stop suddenly without talking to your clinician; stopping can cause tiredness, low mood, or sleep changes.
• Keep it stored safely, away from children and anyone who might misuse it.
